Most of our trainees choose this valuable optional stage! Once you’ve completed your Part 3 training, you’ll be eligible for a DVSA-issued PDI (Potential Driving Instructor) licence, which we will sponsor. This allows you to:

Build your confidence ahead of the final Part 3 exam

Be at least 21 years old
Have held a full UK or EU driving licence for a minimum of 3 years
Be able to read a number plate from 26.5 metres away
Pass a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check
Successfully complete all 3 parts of the DVSA’s qualifying tests:
Part 1: Theory & Hazard Perception
Part 2: Driving Ability
Part 3: Instructional Ability

Yes — you’re welcome to use your own car, provided it meets DVSA requirements, including:
Roadworthy condition with valid MOT, tax, and insurance
Fitted with dual controls (optional)
Suitable interior mirrors for the instructor and examiner
Clean and presentable, inside and out
Alternatively, we can supply a fully equipped training vehicle if you prefer.
The full process typically takes between 6 to 12 months, depending on your availability, how quickly you pass each of the three DVSA tests, and whether you choose to join the PDI (Potential Driving Instructor) scheme. At the moment DVSA wait time for each part is longer than usual.
You’re allowed up to three attempts at Part 2 and Part 3. If you don’t pass after three attempts, you’ll need to wait 2 years from your original Part 1 pass date before starting again. Part 1 has unlimited attempts.
Yes — our training is flexible. You can train part-time, during evenings or weekends, to fit around your schedule.
A PDI (Potential Driving Instructor) is someone who has passed Parts 1 and 2 of the ADI tests and has completed at least 40 hours of Part 3 training. You can apply for a trainee licence that allows you to begin teaching real learners for pay while gaining experience before your final Part 3 test.
Chelsea Elite Kensington School of Motoring will sponsor your PDI licence, provide pupils, and give continued support while you gain valuable real-world teaching experience.

100 multiple-choice questions (90 mins)
Minimum score: 85/100 overall & 20/25 in each category
Hazard Perception: 14 video clips, pass mark 57/75
Duration: 1 hour
Includes eyesight check, vehicle safety, general driving, manoeuvres, independent driving
Pass: No more than 6 minors, no serious faults
Deliver a 40-minute lesson with a real pupil
Assessed across 17 competencies in 3 areas: Lesson Planning, Risk Management, Teaching & Learning Strategies
Grades: A (43-50), B (31-42), Fail (0-30)
If successful, you can apply for your first ADI badge within 12 months of passing. If you don’t pass, you may retake the test — as long as it’s within 2 years of passing your Part 1 and you are allowed up to 3 attempts.
